Film Review:The Post 2017 (9/10)

THE POST

Director: Steven Spielberg

Starring: Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenlirk, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood,

This is really an incredible film by all standards. One of those films that I think will be a cinema classic for many years. Not only it highlights the heroic role played by brave journalists and reporters through history in bringing the truth to the public but it also goes beyond that to show the powerful role of wise women in a male dominant society where women were repeatedly marginalized.

Film Review: The Disaster Artist 2017 (7/10)

Director: James Franco

Starring: James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogan, Zac Efron

This film is a bit like a surprise, and unexpectedly nice. I agree James Franco deserves recognition as it is amazing how a story of failure and disappointment can be transformed in to a good entertaining film.

This film is about the aspiring actor and film maker Tommy Wiseau and his journey of making a really bad, probably the worst ever film which becomes the cult movie “The Room”.

I have not watched the film “The Room” neither have heard of Tommy Wiseau before, but James Franco and his brother and co-star Dave Franco has managed to show a story of friendship, empathy and passion in addition to some comedy in style.

For me it is like seeing James Franco acting for the first time, I can hardly recognize him while he is completely absorbed in to the lonely, strange, bruised weird character including the strange accent.

My rating of 7/10 is mostly based on the performance of James Franco

The film has received two nominations for the Golden Globe Award in the categories of Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and won the later with no nominations for the Bafta

Director: Gilles Paquet-Brenner

Starring: Max Irons, Terence Stamp, Glenn Close, Gillian Anderson, Stefanie Martini and Christina Hendricks

This is the second time this year we see a film based on the crime novel by Agatha Christie only few weeks following the release of (Murder on the Orient Express) and this is no surprise to anyone who have read Agatha Christie novels as all are very well written with a perfect plot and well described characters. I would love to see this as a start to a series of more Agatha Christie adaptations.

Film Review:Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 2017 (8/10)

Jumanji 2

Director: Jake Kasdan

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Bobby Cannavale

Light, entertaining and funny ….. I was quite surprised to find it a really nice entertaining film with great cast, scenery, lots of fun and well-designed plot…. really highly recommended

Having previously enjoyed the original Jumanji in 1995, I didn’t think the come back will be as good, but the film was made cleverly by changing the board game featured in the original film in to a video game where the kids are transformed in to the game characters. This is probably the first big blockbuster film for the director Jake Kasdan.

Film Review: The Killing of a Sacred Deer 2017 (7.5/10)

The killing of the sacred deer

Director: Yorgos Lanthimos

Starring: Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Raffey Cassidy & Sunny Suljic

This film is a multilayer philosophical, thought provoking, disturbing psychological thriller. It’s one of those films you want to watch again but do not dare to. While watching you keep on edge and wonder what is going on?

The film is about a successful heart surgeon with beautiful home, wife and two lovely children, everything is almost perfect except for the teenager whom he has taken under his wings and the really strange robotic way in which the characters speaks. Later we start also noticing the strange relationship between him and his wife.

Film Review:Victoria & Abdul 2017 (7.5/10)

V&A 3

Director: Stephen Frears

Starring: Judi Dench & Ali Fazal

It is extremely impressive and refreshing to watch Judi Dench at 81 dominating the screen again on her own giving such a powerful and moving performance.

While watching her this time …. With each scene I want to stand to bow to her and at the same time I want to jump to give her a hug. She has this charming presence that combines strength and compassion.
