Director: Kenneth Branagh
Starring: Kenneth Branagh, Penélope Cruz, Josh Gad, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench
This movie as many know is based on the famous Agatha Christie’s novel by the same name which is a about a crime that takes place during a luxurious trip on the Orient Express train in 1935.
Everything in this film seems to be almost perfect, it starts with beautiful scenes from Jerusalem, this takes you to scenes from Turkey where the characters starts to be introduced.
I loved the production design, the costumes, the decorations …. And of course, the pleasure of watching a cast full of what I believe to be the cinema giants …. Such as Johnny Deb, Dame Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer and others.
But while I can’t deny I have enjoyed the movie … somehow I keep thinking there was something missing but I can’t quite put my hand on it …. It could be the performance of Kenneth Branagh was a bit exaggerated, or possibly because there was not enough depth for each character that it does not allow you to fully sympathies with them.
That is why I didn’t feel it’s wow movie but nevertheless it continues to be highly entertaining and definitely worth watching.
I would like to thank the movie makers for choosing to re-make such movies because the new generation wouldn’t necessarily know Agatha Christie and surly wouldn’t remember the 1974 version so this is a good way of introducing them to her.
